First Sight of the Beach!

Happy Daylight Savings!

So apparently we were more tired than we thought, because it took until 2:00 p.m. to get us all up and ready to go out and do something.

We started at one of those outdoor mall places that appear to be popping up everywhere lately. Lunch was at the Cheesecake Factory...I definitely recommend the Key Lime cheesecake...it combines two of the greatest things ever: Key Lime pie and cheesecake. Perfect for a visit to Florida. We split up for some quick "shopping," came back to the house to drop off leftovers, and then drove to the beach.

I think all beach areas are developed the same way: high rise hotels and condos surrounded by tiny local bars and restaurants and a variety of "surf shops," with the occasional fast food chain thrown in for good measure. And of course ubiquitous palm trees growing in some of the most random places. But all of that kind of fades into the background when you step out of the car and get that first whiff of salty air. I love the ocean.

Because it was after 5:00 and the sun was rapidly setting on us, it was fairly cool, but that didn't stop us from taking off our shoes and venturing a short ways into the icy water. There were actually some daring people out swimming...they must be either crazy or part penguin, because it was really cold. We were content to just hang out and let the soft, white sand squish between our toes. And of course the guys had to poke every dead jelly fish they found. Boys will be boys.

The day ended with another quiet evening of movies. We have no real set plans for the week, so I guess we're going to be spontaneous. Could be interesting. Or maybe not. I don't care either way, as long as I get to spend more time at the beach.

Wow - "ubiquitous palm tree" - glad to see that college education being put to good use!
Wish I could smell and hear the ocean - somehow Lake Erie just isn't the same.
